News
It's the week of the Bonnie Doon Festival. On the horizon is the festival playing with Journey Bound and also a gig at the Whole Lotta Love Bar in Tidal Moon. Last night I played solo, just for fun at the Upwey RSL. I've decided to cull a lot of the older material on the website and simplify things a bit more as I really don't have time to keep updating the website all the time. Around the traps
In 2013, I began to place greater priority on performing more with others rather than play solo. I still made some fresh appearances that year such as the Daylesford Inn, The Sea Days Festival, the Girgarre Moosic Muster festival, People's Place Music Concert and Folk Victoria venue - The Dancing Dog; and many of the familiar folk club venues. From time to time I still play at RSLs and some cafes/restaurants and earlier this year performed at the inaugural Bonnie Doon Festival. So nowadays, the band 'Journey Bound' and my collaboration with Barbara Jeffrey 'Tidal Moon', takes up most of my musical time. So, I'm either with them or involved in running a monthly music concert or jam sessions. |
Old Emails and New Facebook
I've succumbed to technology and am now on facebook using the name "TheOKJose", to differentiate myself from the billions of other "clones" out there. I'm still a believer of playing live and getting to know your audience, but I must admit, there is just no escaping from Facebook. I won't promise that I'll use it every day or even make regular posts, but... I will use it. Also, please note, that my old Hotmail account is no longer functioning and so anyone with my old business cards may have problems getting hold of me. The email address to use is: [email protected].
[Oh... still getting used to Facebook. I better change the settings from 'friends' to 'public' so that everyone can actually read about the music bits. (May 2014)]
What is that image in the new banner?
The human-like figure with strange colours in the sky is not a contrived picture. This is a picture of an 'Inukshuk', a cairn or pile of rocks used by the Inuit people to mark a better path for others to follow. The word 'Inukshuk' literally means "to act in the capacity of a human". At the time of noticing this image, I wasn't aware of this meaning, but the image just drew me to itself. The colours in the sky are not added, this is a picture of the Northern Lights in the Artic Circle; a place where it is dark for months at a time and where solar winds interact with the earth's magnetic field to produce strange lights. The inukshuk represents ancient advice from Inuit ancestors to the current generation, in a beautiful but often harsh and unforgiving environment. I think music and art is like that sometimes. These cairns are significant markers, assembled and crafted from the past. You can ignore them or you can appreciate them.
Journey Bound

Teaming up with Wendy Snook, Sharon Start and Colin Smith - we perform as a band called called 'Journey Bound'. Having started locally, we are now starting to venture into Folk Club venues and festivals.
It's a very exciting project. We've got a modified van called the "jalopy" that we use to cart all our PA gear and ourselves to various gigs. The band website is growing and the Facebook page is busy with activity. And whilst it's not all about money, I must admit, it was nice to bank the first cheque made out to us. At this rate, the band will have a CD out before I do. You can expect more to come from this "neck of the woods".

Tidal Moon
Classical/Celtic meets Country/Folk.
Meeting at a local Folk club, these two perambulatory, musical, wayfarers kept constantly bumping into each other at various music venues and eventually decided to do something serious about it. So after a good reception at a Folk Victoria concert and several musical rendezvous, they've combined Barbara's Celtic harp and soaring vocals with the timbre of Jose's voice and guitar. The result is a sound akin to bringing the mountains to the sea, minus mudslides or any tsunami-like effects.
