Make MUSIC in THE HILLS
What is it?
Make Music in the Hills is a local initiative which is part of a much larger national and international celebration and it is something I have personally given my full support. Internationally June 21st is known as Make Music Day. This first started in 1982 in France by the French government. Since that time, it is now celebrated in 120 countries around the world. 2018 marks a big push by various music organisations to promote it nationally in Australia. Organisations such as Community Music Victoria, Music Mission, The Australian Music Association and others strive to promote this day and I personally support this endeavour wholeheartedly. The video below describes the event nicely with its imagery.

2019 - CURRENT
2019 is shaping up as organising is underway. Most of this happens on Facebook. I am focusing on events in the hills of Melbourne, building on the successes of 2018.
2018
Two Melbourne Events
So in 2018, I initiated two events "Make Music Thornbury" and "Make Music in The Hills". The latter event was initially called "Make Music Emerald" but was soon changed to better reflect the region to Melbourne's East known by Melbournians fondly and simply as "The Hills". The township of Emerald in particular embraced the concept with amazing enthusiasm and vigour. I suspect that is probably due in some part to its locality which in years past has faced some dramatic scenarios which demand good communication, generosity and hearty spirit. Bushfires can do that to a community.
The Thornbury event is centred around a restaurant called "Lentil As Anything". This is an amazing community hub and is far more than just a restaurant. I had been involved in music there on and off for years and their philosophy and physical venue space was just ideal for providing a free concert to the community. So whilst a little different to Emerald, at least this year there is a seed of activity planted in the area. I hope that in years to come, this music concept can expand as more people know about the event and gain interest. For this year, I'm just happy that there is something that "flies the banner" in Thornbury.
