Around the traps in August/September
St. John's Anglican Church in Cranbourne, was quite full with their regular Fathers in The Chapel concert. It seems to be getting more and more popular despite the construction going on. BAD Folk was a lot of fun with Brent Parlane the feature Act. After never having won anything at all at the club, it was a shock to take out the trifecta and take hope a bottle of wine, a guitar tuner and a hamper! - made me feel glad that I am a member of the club.
I had to re-arrange a few activities this month due to a death in the family. This included withdrawing from the Kelly Country Pick in Beechworth. This is a fantastic festival held every year focusing on traditional, acoustic music including Cajun Old timey and Bluegrass.
In September, I played some gospel music with Barbara Jeffrey and Max Amos at the Peninsula Folk Club concert. For something different, I performed in a competition called 'Acoustic Com 2012' at the Bazoo Bar in Croydon, playing a newly written song 'Blue on Blue'. It was a bit of fun and an opportunity to play somewhere different, try a new song and meet some new people. That month also saw me play at the Newport RSL, I feel like a regular there now! Fathers in the Chapel continued on, despite building works still not finished.
Peninsula Folk Club CD
In August, a few folk from the Peninsula Folk Club have come together to record a CD at the studio of 3RPP, a community radio station on the Mornington Peninsula. For this CD, I was fortunate to record a traditional tune 'Wayfaring Stranger' with the help of Max Amos on mandolin, Dave Ashby on Bass and both Dave and Alan Buckley on backing vocals. The CD should be released next month.

Cranbourne Folk Uniting Night
On the 18th of August, there was the 'Cranbourne Folk Uniting Night', in Cranbourne. The Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church sponsor this and they use the event to support and promote projects such as their 'Food Truck'. The number of people having their homes re-possessed and people living near or below the poverty line continues to increase. With the recent news of 1,900 job cuts in Fairfax Media, some journalists may even end up in this predicament (... perhaps not). Some people actually care about issues like this and donate their time, energy and resources to make a difference and help their neighbours. I'm proud to be associated with such people. Performers included FolkUS, David Valentine, Bill Duffy, Barbara Jeffrey and Dacia.
