'Around the Traps' in August and September
The Mountain Pickers Association is "a-changing" and the organisation is "a-growin". August saw the announcement of plans to incorporate and the invitation was put out for new committee members. M.P.A. is the new force for Melbourne Bluegrass. The drawcard for this month was the Strzelecki Stringbusters all the way from Yinnar, Gippsland. This group is one of my favourite bands. They always seem to really have a ball on the stage and that can't help but infect the audience.
The Stetson Family played at Selby and put on a good show with a five piece bluegrass band using double-bass, mandolin, banjo, guitar and dobro. They aren't really related, but from their harmonies that can be hard to tell. John, their guitarist is responsible for their velcro based set-list (you had to be there to appreciate this).
Updates
Lots of things have happened in August including the Newport RSL on the "BBQ & Bands" Day, the Kelly Country Pick in Beechworth and a Contra Dance at Northcote Uniting Church. I'll get round to processing the photos and videos soon - promise.

Wanted - one fiddle player!
I'm looking to team up with someone in Melbourne who sings, plays the violin, has similar musical tastes and wants to perform as a duo. Ideally you'll live in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, enjoy community involvement and prepared to play in venues like aged care facilities, folk clubs and RSLs. Depending on how things go, we could perhaps do the odd festival here or there, it's up to you how much or how little you want to be involved. Send me an email and we can discuss it! Or better yet, go to one of the events listed on this site and we can talk there.
